When the memory has gone

With joy I remember your memories.
With pride I salute the life you've forgotten.
With sadness I miss your personality.
With thoughtfulness I ponder your life of ministry.
With gratitude I cherish being your daughter.
In faith I believe your spirit is alive in Christ,
your soul firmly in God's hand.
I may never understand this final journey,
But in love my heart holds you firmly.

This is the poem I wrote for my Mum's 90th birthday this year. She has Alzheimers and vascular dementia.
